Gerry,
Your account is very sad. While the Watchtower talks coldly about numbers and "loyalty", your personal experience shows the human side of how their policy hurts real people. Keep telling your story, we all need to remember.

i'm "cleaning house" got a lot of stuff that's just needs to go!
but i came across this newspaper clipping: .
or maybe it isn't coming.
See, it's not that hard, is it? A simple apology goes a long way.
i have several friends that are veterans and they have to work on monday!!
yet teachers (and we know how useless they are) and students get the day off.i have an idea!!
why don't they just let the veterans off, would that be asking too much??
Francois,
The ideal the rest of the world admires and wishes they could be just like us.
The world's police force.
Are you serious??? The rest of the world hates us, for the most part. Mainly because the U.S. thinks it is the world's police force. I don't recall anyone ever asking the U.S. to be the world's police force.
Why is there so much talk about politics on a JW discussion board?
governing body .
watchtower bible & tract society .
dear who ever you are, .
Don't underestimate the power of one letter. Someone will read it at Bethel, maybe more than one. The more letters like this they receive, the more time they spend having to read them. Who knows at what point one of these letters will cause someone to wake up, or at least question their beliefs.
Recently I wrote a letter to the Society regarding a pedophile in the congregation. I was disappointed with the response. But after realizing how many people had to read my letter, I felt like maybe it was not such a useless action as I had first thought. I know that 3 circuit overseers and at least 3 or 4 elders read it before it ever got to Patterson. How many letters do they get like mine nowadays? At the very least, it costs them time and money to read or respond, time and money they would rather be using to "promote Kingdom interests".
back,
couldn'y agree more with you and jjrizo.
Dakota, so far you've done nothing here but name-call, bluster, and wave the flag. Grow up.
blind patriotism is just as bad as blind faith.
we have a brand new audio mp3 on our site.
it's by fran sankey and it's called, "witnessing to jehovah's witnesses".
fran shares some practical witnessing tips, discusses the watchtower mindset and reveals reasons why jehovah's witnesses are so difficult to penetrate with the gospel.
I agree with refiner and Donkey. Trying to show a JW how Witness doctrine is faulty is almost impossible. For every scripture you find, they will have a different one. There is a thread I just read that tries to explain or "prove" the Trinity. It is a complete waste of time. Speaking for myself, now that I have discovered that JW's are just another religion, and that the Bible is just an old book, why would I be interested in joining another group that teaches basically the same kind of doodle?
a normandy resident who was disfellowshipped from jehovah's witnesses is suing the organization for $7 million on grounds the alleged action against her was wrong.
barbara joanna anderson filed the lawsuit thursday in coffee county circuit court.. she is seeking $2 million in compensatory damages, plus $5 million in punitive damages.. the defendants are listed as:.
* watchtower bible and tract society of new york inc.. * watchtower bible and tract society of pennsylvania inc.. * watchtower enterprises llc.. * watchtower foundation inc.. * watchtower associates ltd.. * kingdom support services inc.. * christian congregation of jehovah's witnesses.. * religious order of jehovah's witnesses.. * the watchtower group inc.. * manchester congregation of jehovah's witnesses elders.. * lawrence a. seely, gary hobson, dale dormanen, robert e. matthews, david semonian, j.r. brown, and john does no.
This is awesome news!!! Of course, I don't think anyone has ever successfully sued the WT over shunning, but there is always a first time. Plus Barb's circumstances are quite unique. Its obvious to anyone she was DF'd simply for daring to speak out against the Wt's refusal to address their pedophile problem.
Can't wait to see all the dirty laundry of the Watchtower get put on public display as the case goes to court.
ain't payback sweet!!! Go Barb go!!!
thoughts and questions.
your viewpoints will be appreciated.
thanks.. using the 1999 wt cd-rom, i did a search of watchtower articles containing the jw catch-phrase, "thousands are disfellowshipped each year...".
I have never thought about as a scare tactic, or to induce fear. To me it has always seemed like their way of showing what a wholesome, clean organization they have. Kind of like the politician who is "tough on crime." Most dubs are proud of the fact that their religion does not tolerate wrongdoing, unlike churches of Christendom, where anything goes and morals are not taught. God, now I sound like one of them.
Of course, I have to come to realize that the Org is not interested in cleanliness so much as the appearance of cleanliness. Its all about appearance.
isn't this just a pitiful way of saying, 'i can't deal with my anger'....'just be passive and be quiet and don't have any expectations'....'life is just too difficult; count me out'....'i can't have any impact anyway so why should i even try?
'....and of just sitting somewhere on the very outside and just daydreaming of how god, or maybe even spiderman, is just going to come along one day and then, then really, "i'll show you!
"
The worst use of this phrase is when the Society uses it as an excuse for their failure to correct their mistakes.
Have a complaint about the way a matter is handled? Don't make an issue out of it. Wait on Jehovah.
aaarrrgggghhhhhh!!!!
I still attend a meeting here and there. I may be all done though.
